On Wednesday the 11th March 2020 the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the outbreak of COVID-19 (Corona Virus) to be a pandemic. WHO and public health authorities around the world are taking action to contain the outbreak, however success relies on all sections of society to take measures necessary to help stop the spread. Surf Life Saving NSW continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic through official sources including the Australian Government Department of Health, NSW Health and NSW Sport.

With the continued relaxation of restrictions, we are seeing surf lifesaving activities resuming and we are continuing to  transition to our usual operations and opening of our facility to ensure we retain rescue readiness.

PLEASE DO NOT ENTER OUR SURF CLUB IF YOU HAVE:

  • returned from overseas travel in the last 14 days
  • knowingly come into contact with someone who has

  • diagnosed or exposed in the last 14 days

  • sore throat, runny nose or unexplained shortness of breath

We can all help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Australia. To protect others and when visiting our club you must:

For all patrons entering our facility:  your name, mobile phone number (or email address) will be kept on record for a period of at least 28 days. These records are to be used for tracing COVID-19 infections and will be stored confidentially and securely. Patrons are requested to maintain a social distance of 1.5m between each person (those persons not residing in your household) – patrons who fail to comply with this request will be asked to leave the venue immediately. Chairs and tables will be configured to support 1.5m distancing requirements. Individual groups are to consist of no more than 10 people. Hand sanitiser is to be used upon entry. All areas will be cleaned regularly

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Having examined advice from government and industry groups, Surf Life Saving NSW is of the view that the majority of training and education activities can resume. This includes Bronze Medallion and other aquatic rescue awards and skills maintenance (including surf sport training).

Further, as a gazetted emergency service and an essential service, SLSNSW considers that the maintenance of skills is required to ensure the personal safety of volunteers who are likely to be engaged in rescue or response operations and importantly maintain our rescue readiness. Wherever possible social distancing and hygiene protocols are to be observed when engaged in rescue ready training activities.

SLSNSW is also of the view that as stated in Item 4 of Schedule 2 of the current Public Health Order, “a gathering for the purposes of emergency services, including the provision of training by an emergency service,” provides an exemption from the application of Clause 10, which excludes public gatherings of more than 10 people.
